general faqs
Children as young as four years old have participated in the Learn to Skate Program. There is NO age limit if you want to start. Typically we have children between 5 to 8 years old going up to adults who enter our programs.
The Academy has several programs to teach you how to skate, including the Intro To Hockey programs and Learn To Skate programs which is more geared towards teaching the skating fundamentals.
What entry level program is most appropriate for me?
Learn To Skate (LTS)
Open to all ages and levels of interest, those interested in hockey or basic skating. It is highly recommended that you take one or more sessions of “Learn to Skate” before taking our “Intro to Hockey” program.
Students get 1 hour or 1/2 hour per week of formal instruction on the basic fundamental skating skills. Sessions run throughout the year.
Find more info in our “Learn To Skate” section on our training programs.
Intro To Hockey (ITH)
This is our first entry level Ice Hockey program, designed to develop a foundation of hockey skating skills and basic hockey skills (stick-handling, passing & receiving, shooting) in a fun and exciting atmosphere.
Participants should have some knowledge of skating before joining this program. This class is ideal for players who have already went through the Learn to Skate classes and want to move forward with their development.
Find more info in our “Intro To Hockey” section on our training programs.
Sunday Skills-N-Drills Class
This is our intermediate level class. This class is once a week every Sunday night, and it is intended for skaters who have taken our “Intro to Hockey” class or have equivalent skating and basic hockey skills.
Each lesson will have a more “skill-oriented” focus and will run multiple stations to teach each skill. This class is open to older and younger players with the requisite skills.
Students get 1 hour per week of formal instruction on the intermediate hockey skills. Sessions run throughout the year.
